Shadawang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Shadawang, Bayin Gol (gully), Usu County, Xinjiang. It was named by Gao Yunsheng in 1972.
Lithology and Thickness
Volcanic Ophiolite and Chert. The Lower part is of fully serpentinized Gabbro to peridotite and pure peridotite;, the Middle part consists of bedded gabbro with plagioclase-rich granite dikes penetrating; and the Upper part is formed by pillow basalt interbedded with radiolarian chert. An exposed thickness of 495 m at type section, and is 1132.8 m at Lucaogou of the Kuytun River, and 1190.8 m extending westward to Motuosala of Usu County, with incomplete ophiolite suite.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unknown: Underlying stratum is not seen
Upper contact
Unconformable contact with the overlying Qianxia Fm
Regional extent
Extending NW-SE along the north slope of Yilianhabierga Mt., located on the north side of the “Tianshan main fault of China”, spreading along the front thrust zone of the North Tianshan Variscan orogenic belt. The deep-water ophiolite suite deposits are scattered intermittently from Ebinur Lake, Bayin Gol to Houxia.

At Bayin Gol, radiolarian Ceratoikisoum sp. and a few conodonts are found.
